BBP Bio-based products
It was founded in May 2005 and, since then, has been researching methods and solutions for the purification and use of waste based on green chemistry and sustainability approaches.
The group seeks to establish lines of exploitation of all types of plant materials to obtain various products, mainly focused on chemical and physico-chemical fractionation processes. Under the scheme of biorefinery type treatments, the components of the raw material are separated, producing streams with potential use in different applications.
Research line 1 - Chemical fractionation and use of lignocellulosic materials: biorefinery.
The group carry out chemical separation of the main components of plant tissues using non-aggressive and environmentally friendly methods. They also carry out compositional analysis and determination of the properties of the separated fractions.
Research line 2 - Isolation and identification of bioactive compounds of plant origin.
The group carry out the identification of plant fractions with in vitro biological activity; isolation, quantification of activity and contribution to the search for applications.
