CICA is a center of the University da Coruña has facilities in accordance with the requirements of works where research of excellence and with an international vocation is developed.
People who join CICA will be able to have both a laboratory space and access to equipment for common use. They will also be able to access unique equipment through the Research Support Services (SAI) of the UDC.
The researchers have the advice of the CICA management staff who offer support in different strategic actions of the center:
- Preparation in calls for funding of projects, especially European calls
- Access to recruitment programs
- Support in the transfer of research results through the protection of results, preparation of contracts with companies, creation of spin-offs or similar initiatives
- Communication through press releases, impact on social networks, support in the dissemination of science
CICA makes available to its members internal funding aid for attendance at congresses, research-stays, open publications, family reconciliation …
CICA is a center with many activities, where conferences of invited researchers are held, internal seminars of the strategic lines, thematic cycles of talks and more relaxed events such as Happy Hours. In addition, among other actions, training sessions are organized for the preparation of proposals for European projects, for the best transfer of results and technologies, for the promotion of scientific dissemination to society and in the promotion of the center with companies.
We are committed to scientific dissemination and RRI. We attend and are protagonists in several annual events and develop our own projects to promote scientific vocations and publicize the research we develop.
We promulgate gender equality and family reconciliation, so we implement activities to promote them.
HRS4R
As part of the commitment to attract the best research talent, the University of A Coruña, to which CICA belongs, in August 2016 adhered to the European Charter for Researchers and the Code of Conduct for the Recruitment of Researchers that establishes the rights and obligations of researchers and the institutions that employ and finance them to apply transparent and fair recruitment procedures.
It obtained the “HR Excellence in Research” logo on June 7, 2017 and on July 8, 2019 it received from Euraxess a favorable evaluation of the implementation measures of the seal, in its intermediate phase (Implementation Phase Interim Assessment).

Support for ERC applicants
From CICA, in collaboration with the Office of Transfer of Research Results (OTRI) of the UDC, we support researchers who want to apply for a grant from the European Research Council (ERC) to join the Research Center, through the BERCE program of the UDC.
This program provides:
- Technical support in the preparation of proposals for the ERC in any of its modalities. It includes advice on the evaluation of the ERC, technical review of the proposal, preparation of budget, linguistic review,…
- Availability of their own physical space to carry out the project, which will guarantee researchers their research independence. In this sense, the UDC may enable laboratories in its Centers provided that the research is related to its lines of action.
- Access to the Oportunius Program promoted by the GAIN of the Regional Goverment Xunta de Galicia, through the signing of a specific agreement between the UDC and the GAIN. It will allow researchers to benefit from the conditions and advantages of this program, including training and, above all, job stability through a contract reviewable every five years of “Distinguished Professor”. For UDC researchers with a previous indefinite contract, Oportunius offers the possibility of having additional financial resources for their research.
- Negotiation of economic incentives during the development of the ERC project that allow the total salary of the researchers to be fully competitive and in accordance with the category and prestige associated with the beneficiaries of this type of project.
- Access to all the services offered by the UDC, both for the management of projects, agreements and contracts, as well as for the protection of industrial and intellectual property, the publication service, the creation of EBTs,..
- Flexibility of the Program to negotiate the conditions set forth here or other additional specific needs of each researcher. The UDC undertakes to study the suggestions and proposals of the beneficiaries of the ERC and, if possible, include them in the BERCE program.
